Awaiting the 8th Pay Commission: What You Should Know

If you have been expecting the new 8th Central Pay Commission, there is a new development on the news. While responding to the questions raised by the Rajya Sabha members Ramji Lal Suman and Javed Ali Khan, the union minister of state for finance Pankaj Chaudhary said that two proposals were received in June 2024 for the constitution of the eighth pay commission. However, he cautioned that there is no bill that is formally put before the government as of now.

A Decade of Waiting

The central pay commission which is meant for the review of central government employees’ structure remunerations allowances, and other emoluments is set every decade. The 7th Pay Commission was constituted in February 2014 and the recommendations of the commission were given effect to from 01-01-2016.

Expected DA Increase

Apart from the notification on the Pay Commission, employees are still expecting an update on the rates of DA for the second half of the year. With regards to trends, the DA that has been estimated at fifty percent is forecasted to increase by four percent, thus standing at fifty-four percent. Inflationary expectations are expected to go up around September, or October, with decisions on the DA normally reached before the Navratri festival.
