DA Hike 2024 announced: Payment Arrangement Now Available for 18-Month Arrears

Hike in DA DR was announced by the Government of India to be 2%.

The Central government has hiked DA and DR by 2% for more than one crore employees and pension holders. This takes the DA rate to 52%. The official communication on the matter will be made after July. It held that the various categories of persons have formed the 18-month arrears and want to know when they will be paid.

Issues related to arrears have been discussed in a recent meeting.

Only the other day at the staff side meeting, AIDIF General Secretary C. Srikumar made a serious query on 18-month arrears. He expressed the need to beckon the Secretary of DOPT to release the amount for the arrears for the employees and pensioners under DA/DR.

Maheshwari, the Secretary of ‘Bharat Pensioner Samaj,’ and also made a demand for the government to add the arrears they kept during the stretch of the pandemic.

Revision of the 18 Months-Arrears

As a result of the budget session, the central government admitted to having received various employee organizations’ demands for the pending DA amount.

But the government has earlier stated that the 18-month arrears would not be released. They had to spend that amount during the COVID-19 period. After the forthcoming elections to the Lok Sabha, the employee unions have activated themselves; therefore, the government has changed its stand on the matter.

COVID-19: There is a Delay in DA Payment

Thus, the government has withheld the installation of DA and DR from January 2020 up to June 2021 due to the economic crisis during the pandemic.

As the time shift happened, the DA had escalated to 21% in January 2020, 24% in July 2020, and 28% in January 2021. Nonetheless, the payments were exercised in terms of the former 17 percent rate.

Employee unions often resort to Supreme Court decisions.

Employees, through their unions, have threatened to go to the Supreme Court in case the government fails to announce the arrears. The Apex Court has held that salaries and pensions are earned and cannot be withheld, and therefore so are DA-arrears.

Expected Arrears Payment Amount

By the court’s order to return the withheld DA, each employee could regain anything between Rs 50,000 and Rs 2,00,000, depending upon the basic pay. Instead, to establish the exact figure, the workers should use the download button below.
