Yamaha RX100: The Iconic Motorcycle is Making a Comeback

There is no need for you to immediately look for a brand new motorcycle to purchase, as the legendary Yamaha RX100 is coming back. This bike that was hugely synonymous with the 80s and 90s has now resurfaced or has been brought back into the limelight. Yamaha is willing to relaunch it with more features and an outstanding engine.

Modern features and a powerful engine

Manufactured for the first time in 2012, the RX100 initially had a 98.2 cc two-stroke engine. It is estimated that the new variant will have a bigger engine, a four-stroke, and a more or less 225.9 cc engine compliant with BS6 emission standards. This new engine will develop a maximum output power of 20 bhp.

Yamaha India Senior VP and Japan imports division head, Ishin Chihana, rightfully added that the RX100 has a great reception in India, but for attaining the new RDE norms, the engine should not be less than 200 cc.

Expected Specifications and Features

The new Yamaha RX100 will continue to carry certain design aspects of the original RX100 to attract nostalgic buyers. Other additional end-user comforts include fuel injection, anti-locking brakes, and a completely digital cluster.

Although the model name could shift to RX100 to correspond with the new engine size, potentially, RX will remain the brand name.

Launch date and prices

Yamaha has not given any official date for the launch of the new RX100 in the Indian market. However, rumors have it that it might take to the roads in 2024. The bike is expected to be one of the cheapest Yamahas on the market, with prices ranging from Rs 1.25 lakh to Rs 1.50 lakh.

A Brief History of the Yamaha RX100

The Yamaha RX100 was first launched in the Indian market in 1985 and attractively captured the hearts of bike lovers by offering them product features like design, engine, speed, and the presence of a unique sound. It became the first choice for many and was even used in stunt performances in the Well of Death.
